📰 With Stories Now
I describe DoubleStack as a publication about food, drink, and stories from NYC and beyond. The obvious part of this is the food and drink, it's all the burgers and cocktails that I write about. Stories are harder. In some of the posts about places, I've included stories and anecdotes of things I've witnessed. I wanted to go deeper, especially into the diners.
Earlier this week I published a dinner that I had with Zach Thomas. We wanted to have a meal together. I took inspiration from Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars getting Coffee, podcasts that routinely feature different guests, and more. I asked him if it would be all right for me to ask him a couple of questions and include his responses, paraphrased, in a post for DoubleStack. He quickly agreed.
The questions I asked:
- Why did you pick this place?
- What got you into Urbanism?
- What does food mean to you?
Zach picked the place and chose everything we ordered. In a way, I got to know him not just through the answers he gave me but the way he ordered and what he ordered. It's a look beyond the meal to the people. The urbanism question was unique to Zach but for others, it'll be something unique to them.
The idea was to make it feel like I was sharing my experience meeting someone for a meal. This was an experiment. I've gotten some feedback already. I would like to do more. Was this a format that you enjoyed? If so, who would you like me to feature next?
If you enjoy reading these as much as I enjoy sharing them, please consider buying me a coffee. I might just write about it. ☕ Buy me a coffee.
What's New This Week
I wrote about recent meals from Hupo, a Michelin Bib winner, and Neeloo a new-ish French restaurant in Williamsburg.
