📍Bonnie's, New York City

Bonnie's opened a couple of years ago. It was trendy, maybe still is, and quickly became known in the NY dining scene. Someone could write many words on that early history but I never got a chance to visit them. I keep a list of places I want to go and what I want to eat there. On the evening I went to Bonnie's, it was just the next name on the list.
I snagged an early evening bar seat reservation. It's a couple blocks off the Lorimer stop and a wonderful early summer walk. I walked in the door, most of the bar was already packed, some regulars and others. Most of the tables were busy. Conversations were flowing. I heard Bonnie's had the vibes and I was glad to see that confirmed despite being there so early in the day. I distinctly remember the joyful energy at Bonnie's.

MSG Martini at Bonnie's
I started with the MSG Martini. They offer it with gin or vodka, I went gin so mine had Bombay Sapphire, olive brine, Shaoxing wine, and msg. I enjoy briney flavors and umami. This is the pinnacle of that. It punches you in the face. The Shaoxing wine in place of the vermouth adds a little sweetness but also amps up all the umami. I commend the brilliance of how this drink was made.
