Coffee at Campesino Café

I slept in the morning of New Year's Eve in Medellín. Once I woke up, I was in the familiar state of looking for coffee. This place was near the AirBnB with a food menu. I had it on my shortlist before coming like the others. This was just a block away from Urbania Café.

Over the short walk, I continued to enjoy the weather. We walked right by this place. The entrance and signage are densely covered by plants and foliage. It was easy to miss. We doubled back and saw the ramp-up. It led to an open patio with a restaurant that was open also. There's a counter on the left inside for takeaway coffee, otherwise, sit where you want.

Coffee at Campesino Café

This was the only place I saw this specific water brand. It's marketed as water that has been finely tuned to meet your body's hydration needs. I can't say if it was that, the weather, or my dehydration, the water felt great.

Unlike most places I had been to this point, Campesino only offered filtered coffee brewed in the pour-over style. I couldn't tell the specific method because it happened so far behind the scenes.

They roast their coffee, just like all the other places I have visited thus far. I picked the Madre Laura Natural roast. There were a few other options but these beans were roasted within the husk of the coffee cherry. Most roasted coffee is washed, removing the cherry. They said this version is sweeter but I didn't have the washed version to compare it to. I got notes of berries and chocolate while drinking this.

Eggs at Campesino Café

We both ordered the same food. This breakfast plate included toasted bread, smashed avocado, and soufflé eggs. The eggs were steaming hot, the toast was warm, and the avocado was chilled. The avocado had a thin consistency which made it great to spread on the toast. Which is what I did.

The eggs came in a very hot cast iron bowl. The eggs were cooked in that. As I scraped the inside, some of it was stuck on the edges. The eggs were light and fluffy with steam escaping with each bite. There were chewy bits of bacon in the egg. Finely ground chicharron powder was dusted on top and gave some texture to every bite.

I was fueled up and ready to explore on my short day. New Year's Eve plans were fast approaching.
