Brooklyn Crawl: Stop 1

📍Sey Coffee, New York City

NYC's Bushwick, Williamsburg, and Greenpoint sections are hyper-concentrated with great coffee shops, food, and bars. So when a friend visited from Los Angeles, I got the opportunity to revisit some favorites.

Skylight and greenery at Sey Coffee

It’s a beautiful, somewhat rustic space inside. Multiple skylights and large windows provide a lot of light. Plants everywhere. There wasn’t a corner or open area that wasn’t filled with seating. Each chair was occupied with intense conversations. I suspect many were catching up about the night and week before. At least on a Saturday morning, every table had signs banning the use of laptops. In the back, they had placed their roasting machinery surrounded by local sellers offering their artisan goods for purchase.

There was a parade of people (and dogs) coming in to order. The store-length counter had only one register but a full team of people brewing and preparing coffee in every way imaginable. Everything moved quickly.

I like volume, it wasn’t too cold outside, so I got a cold brew. The presentation and experience is one that coffee enthusiasts would particularly appreciate. Everything comes in proper glassware with a wooden tray. There’s sparkling water, understandably unflavored, to refresh your palette. The beans for the coffee I had were from Ethiopia. It was light and floral with minimal acidity. It was just what I needed to start a food crawl in Brooklyn.
