📍Walker's Doughnuts, Melbourne
Walking back to the hotel on the first night the bright sign outside caught my eye. Flinder's Street Station is on one side, and hot jam doughnuts are on the other. Melbourne has a hot jam doughnut culture. There are a few places to find them and this is a local chain.
I walked in and looked for them. I saw all sorts of other frosted and filled doughnuts in the case. Someone standing in the corner and sipping a coffee noticed my perplexity and offered to help me choose. I asked about the sign that said hot jam doughnuts. He laughed and said they keep that warm in an oven behind the counter and I needed to ask.
I ordered and asked for one. I was surprised by the size. I expected a full-size doughnut. It turns out that most people buy more than one because of the size. It was warm and filled with jelly. The doughnut was soft and fluffy. The jelly had a raspberry and plum flavor. It was just a little tart to go with the sweetness.
That wraps up my first day in Melbourne. I had drinks at Double Happiness and a burger from Betty's. Let's see what tomorrow holds.
If you enjoy reading these as much as I enjoy sharing them, please consider buying me a coffee. I might just write about it. ☕ Buy me a coffee.
